A surprise party only works if everyone else knows the plan and the guest of honour knows nothing. That's harder than it sounds. Group chats get forwarded, partners talk, and somebody always replies-all to the wrong thread.
A private invite page solves most of it. Only people with the link can see it, the arrival time and the cover story are written down in one place, and any changes go on the page rather than through a dozen messages the birthday person might glimpse over someone's shoulder.
How it works
1. Pick a design and add your details
Choose a template, then add the date, venue and anything guests need to know. It takes a few minutes.
2. Share one link
Send it by email, text or WhatsApp, or let Invitify email your guest list for you.
3. Watch the replies come in
RSVPs, dietary needs and plus-ones land in one guest list, with reminders sent for you.
Surprise party invitation wording ideas
Copy any of these into your invite and make it your own.
Shh - it's a surprise! Please join us at The Cellar Bar on Saturday 25 September to celebrate Grace's 40th. Arrive by 7pm sharp; she'll walk in at 7.30.
Grace has no idea, so please don't mention it, like it, post it or tag her in anything. If she asks what you're doing that night, you're 'busy'.
Tom is taking Grace out for 'a quiet dinner for two'. When they arrive, the lights will be off - stay quiet until they come down the stairs, then SURPRISE!
Any changes will be posted on this invite page, not in a group chat - please check back here rather than messaging about it.
Planning tips
Make the invite private
Use a private invite and share the link directly with guests. Ask everyone not to post about it, and never put the event on a shared calendar the guest of honour can see.
Give guests an earlier arrival time
Ask guests to arrive 30 minutes before the guest of honour, and put that time in the first line of the invite. Latecomers are the number one surprise-ruiner.
Write down the cover story
Agree how the guest of honour will be brought to the venue - a 'quiet dinner', a 'quick drink' - and share it in the invite so nobody contradicts it by accident.
Keep updates off group chats
Post changes on the invite page instead. Group chats get read over shoulders and forwarded by mistake; an invite page only reaches people with the link.
Send invites 4–6 weeks ahead
Surprise parties need everyone there at once, so give plenty of notice - and set the RSVP deadline two weeks before so you know who's in on it.
Have a point of contact on the night
Put a host name and number in the invite so guests can message someone other than the guest of honour if they're running late or lost.

Common questions
How do you send surprise party invitations without them finding out?
Send a private invite link directly to guests rather than posting it anywhere public. Ask guests not to mention it online, keep updates on the invite page instead of group chats, and avoid using any shared family email or calendar.
What time should guests arrive for a surprise party?
Around 30 minutes before the guest of honour. Put the arrival time in the first line of the invite and make it clear that it's earlier than the 'real' start.
What should a surprise party invitation say?
Lead with 'It's a surprise!' Then give the guest of honour's name, the venue, the guest arrival time, when the guest of honour will arrive, the cover story, and the RSVP deadline. Add a contact for the night who isn't the birthday person.
How far in advance should you send surprise party invites?
Four to six weeks. Set the RSVP deadline two weeks before, so you know numbers and who needs a reminder about the secret.
Can guests RSVP without creating an account?
Yes. Guests open the private link and reply - no account needed, and nothing is posted anywhere public.
